Tenofovir dipivoxil is an ester prodrug of the nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor tenofovir. It is a 5'-monophosphate nucleotide and has a broad-spectrum antiviral effect, which can inhibit HIV-1 and HIV -2 reverse transcriptase and HBV polymerase, thereby inhibiting virus replication.
